November 1st I woke up to frost on my windows, Starbucks’ Holiday beverage announcement and a calendar reminder for this weekend’s Jingle Bell Run. Just like that we’re welcoming the holiday season and late fall slowly blending into the long stretch of winter. Not only are boots practical for the cold weather, but are a necessary piece of every outfit for the next six months of holiday gatherings and just regular, everyday life.
If you’re not a Minnesota native, your winters might not be quite as prolonged, but I follow enough LA bloggers to know that temperature doesn’t matter when it comes to winter style ;) Read on for my favorite cold weather boot styles.
Over the Knee Boot: I was so happy to see that the over the knee boot didn’t have just a one season stint, as they’re the perfect way to cover up bare legs in the cold weather. Similar Style: The Lara Over the Knee Boot from DSW.
Sock Bootie: I absolutely love the Classic Heeled Bootie from Chinese Laundry. There’s something so chic about a black, suede sock bootie that instantly dresses up any outfit.
Neutral Bootie: Everyone should have a pair of brown or tan booties in their closet. My favorite way to wear these is with a great pair of denim, but this versatile style goes with almost any outfit. Also from Chinese Laundry, these comfy booties were my go-to last winter and, although they could use a good cleaning, have made a reappearance in my wardrobe already this fall. Similar Style: The Sonya Bootie from Chinese Laundry.
Printed Bootie: Outside of your staple boots, a printed pair is the perfect way to have a little fun with your look. Cheetah print + stripes is a current obsession of mine. This sassy pair is from Target last season. Similar Style: The Stradivarius Heeled Ankle Boot from ASOS.
Outdoor Boot: In Minnesota, a boot that can weather the snow and slush, keep your feet warm and manage to keep you from going down hard on the ice is crucial. Luckily, brands like Sperry, Sorrel, L.L. Bean and Timberland make the coziest boots that are both cute and practical. My most recent (and favorite!) boot purchase is the Courmayeur Valley Chelsea Boots from Timberland.
Chelsea Boot: Lastly, every gal needs a Chelsea boot for more casual occasions or when you just plain don’t want to wear heels. While this pair from Steve Madden isn’t quite as warm, it has lasted years. Similar Style: The Lithium Chelsea Boot from DSW.
